Taurai Maisiri

BORN:
Taurai Maisiri was born on the 9th of September 1959

LIVES:
He presently resides in Zengeza 3, Chitungwiza.

EDUCATION:
He learnt at St Thomas Mavhezha in Nyazura and was educated up to grade 7 (1968-1974).

CAREER:
Taurai served as an apprentice in sculpture under a leading artist, Lameck Zano during the years 1982 until 1985. From 1986 to1989, he worked for Chapungu Sculpture Park as an independent charge hand, with the gallery assisting mainly with the marketing of his artworks. Taurai eventually moved away from Chapungu and began operating from his home from 1990. In 1991 Taurai was invited by the National Gallery of Zimbabwe to a function arranged for Queen Elizabeth. This was on account of his internationally distinguished artworks. In 1998, he moved away from his home workshop and began Operating from an industrial bay within Chitungwiza wher he began teaching younger enthusiastic artists how to curve animal sculptures. During the year 2001, one of his animal stone sculptures was bought by the President of Zimbabwe and his wife, the first lady. Taurai was commissioned in 2010 to do a life size sheep sculpture by the founder and president of Z.A.O.G.A Church, Ezekiel Guti. Taurai Maisiri is one of the senior resident artists operating at the Chitungwiza Arts Centre.
