BORN:
Simon Buchanan was born in Bristol in 1966

EDUCATION:
Educated at St. James School in London. After leaving school, and having travelled in the east for a year, he apprenticed himself to the sculptors Edwin Russell FRBS and Lorne McKean FRBS. Having completed the seven year apprenticeship

CAREER:
Simon started work in London as a self-employed artist in 1993. Early work included studio work for the sculptor Nathan David FRBS and designing and carving memorial stones for Memorials by Artists. In 1997 he was commissioned to carve an altar piece for the chapel in the new school building of his alma mater, St. James. This was just the scale and type of work he was looking for and showed the direction of the work to come. In 2013 Simon was elected a member of the Royal British Society of Sculptors. One of the ideals he believes in is that the purpose of art is to spread happiness whether through beauty, education or as an indicator of eternal truth.
