Liam Hopkins

BORN:
Liam was born in Ashton-under-Lyne Manchester in 1985, he works from his studio (Lazerian) which is based in Devon, UK

CAREER:
Liam grew up in a family home where nothing was thrown away, old tv’s, radios, kettles etc were always taken to pieces and examined. At the age of 13 Liam restored a rusty old Lambretta. At the age of 15 he began work on restoring an old Mini which he got back to pristine condition by the time he passed his driving test at the age of 17. In 2000 Liam decide to sign up to do a course in 3D design at Tameside Technical College, then onto another 3D course at MMU which allowed him to start experimenting with different materials. Liam has recently been asked if he would return to the Manchester School of Art (MMU) to become an associate lecturer on the product design and the 3D design courses.


MEDIUMS USED IN WORK:
Metal, Paper, Glass, Ceramics and Wood.


SUBJECTS OF WORK:
Architectural Decoration, furniture, jewelry, lighting and sculpture.


EXHIBITIONS:
Liam’s work is not only exhibited in Manchester but across the whole of the UK and internationally including Milan and New York. His first break through was a table designed and made for the Liverpool Design Show, which won him first place for furniture design. Liam designs went from strength to strength getting commissions from the likes of Liberty, Heal’s and Habitat.
