Frank Meisler

PARENTS:
Franks was born to a German mother and a Polish Father.

EARLY LIFE:
Franks childhood was spent in Danzig with his extended Jewish Family. As Nazism began to grow, Frank was banished for Both his German and Polish schools, His father too had to leave his home town, and when he was only 13, Frank also escaped the Nazis with the Kindertransport resuce mission which saved 10,000 children. His parents were sadly arrested and then murdered in the Auschwitz concentration camp. Frank arrived in London to stay with family and was given permission to stay as a refugee.

EDUCATION:
Frank Attended boarding school in Harrow and then did National Service in The Royal Air Force. He later studied architecture at the University of Manchester.

CAREER:
Frank worked as an architect in Israel in 1953. Frank and his wife Batya opened a studio and gallery in 1970which featured some of his art, the gallery became a family business, which is still run today by his daughter Marit. He gathered a group of professional artists together who still work there today, developing new ideas.

AWARDS:
The Order of Merit 1st Class of the Federal Republic of Germany and ‘The Freedom of the City of London’ honorary award. Previously he was also honoured with ‘The Franz Kafka Gold Medal’ and an Honorary Member of both the Russian and the Ukrainian Academies of Art.
