Craig Dyson

At the age of 6 he constructed a timber workstation at his Granddads joinery shed intending to be his art corner for home. Primarily plastercine makings this was his earliest unintentional body of work. His first workshop came in the shape of a garden shed which was a Christmas present. It was from here that regular creations appeared, ranging from carved garden gates to bird tables. It wasn’t many years before the next big move “to the garage” came along where he began work on some commissioned work.

Craig gained 9 A*- C grade G.C.S.E's. At this point he was torn, to develop a practical career within joinery or continue education to A level; he decided on both. He gained 3 A grade A levels and a level 2 N.V.Q joinery qualifications. He planned to attend university on a deferred entry and began working more directly towards sculpture.

In 2013 Craig built a pigeon from sycamore to empicise the role of the carrier pigeon in the war, as well as a 10ft wing spanned Spitfire made from Sycamore and ash, he also created a golden eagle with a 6ft wing span made from bronze, copper and brass in support of SSAFA, the charity for servicemen and women. Displayed in Haworth Park is a spherical sculpture made from over 25,000 2p coins, this was to commemorate the Tour de France in Yorkshire.

In 2013 Craig earnt himself a Keighley Business, Young Business Person Award for his freelance work. His sculptures have been featured around Yorkshire, including at Castle Howard, near York, Newby Hall, and at the Ferniehurst Dell Sculpture Trail at Baildon, as well as abroad at the Zurich International Art Exhibition.

Mostly wood and metal.

His inspiration comes mostly from his love of nature and his travels to New Zealand, Australia, China and South America.
