Charles Robinson Sykes

BORN:
18th December 1875 – 6th June 1950

EDUCATION:
As a boy, Charles attended Rutherford Art College in Newcastle and in 1898, he won a scholarship to the Royal College of Art in London. It was here that he first studied sculpture and made experimental castings in gold, silver and bronze.

CAREER:
Charles is an English sculptor, best known for designing the Spirit of Ecstasy mascot which is used on Rolls-Royce cars. He was commissioned by Lord Montagu to make a special mascot for his 1909 Rolls-Royce Silver Ghost.
