Amos Supini

BORN:
1970 Malawi – 2010 Supuni was killed while searching for food to feed his family in Mozambique

PARENTS:
Arrived in Zimbabwe just two months after Amos was born, his father was on his way to the gold mines of South Africa, but luckily managed to find work in Zimbabwe.

EARLY LIFE:
After completing secondary school in 1989, Supini joined a catholic youth group run by nuns. After securing stone and tools via donations, the group began a workshop taught partially by Tapfuma Gutsa; the first Zimbabwean recipient of a British Council award.

CAREER: Supuni spent some time within a cultural exchange group where he learnt etching, lino cutting and print making. Once he returned to Zimbabwe he became an artist in residence in Chapungu Sculpture park. He describes his work as a voice for the voiceless! He is known for tackling social issues such as the poverty stricken and the street kids.
