Sculptures For Sale

Sculptures can add a classical atmosphere to a room or garden, be it a bronze, metal sculpture or carved style sculpture. They are an excellent form of art to collect, and a very rewarding hobby, but if you are not an experienced collector or just want something to put in your hallway, you might want to know what questions to ask yourself when buying a sculpture for sale. Here's a quick guide on what to look for when buying, so as you aren't sold short or ripped off and can assure that you will end up with a beautiful piece of artwork.

Research

Sculptures were crafted all over the world and still are today.. Because of the varying styles and different significances each hold, it is worth doing some research or consulting an expert to understand what different types represent.. Knowing the background to a particular art can help you get a good idea on what you are looking for when you decide to buy. Doing careful research can ensure that you won't end up with a purchase you'll regret later.

Start Small

Decide where you want to put the piece in your house or garden. For first time buyers, it's a good idea to start small. Getting something like a huge standing statue as a first time by isn't always a good option. Ideally, it should be a small sculpture that can rest on a table or a windowsill.. Keeping in mind where you want to put your sculpture is important, as it will prevent you from buying too large and cluttering up your room.. Otherwise, it could merely be confined to the attic in future.

Starting small will also give you time to consider how much you want to invest in this hobby and how you will want your collection to grow. It'll also help you gauge how much you can expect to pay.

Quality

It might seem obvious, but be careful when buying to check for quality. For example, if you see a bronze sculpture for sale, look for any wearing of the metal, cracks or chips that may affect the overall value of the piece. This is especially important when choosing a carved wooden statue, as these can be more prone to wear and tear, and affect it's value. These can be expensive and time consuming to repair. This is especially important if you are buying a sculpture second hand.

Galleries / Sculpture Park

Galleries are good places to buy. It gives you an opportunity to choose a piece that will suit your home and also give you a good idea of what size the actual sculptures are. Most importantly, it will assure you will only be presented with items which are of the finest quality, as opposed to a second hand shop.

Commissions

If you still looking at sculptures for sale but can't find exactly what you are looking for, consider having a piece designed for you specifically. If you are certain what style you like and put enough thought into the design, you can create a high quality, long lasting piece of art .
